ILLUSION OF POWER

You read that right. Illusion of Power. During the summer, my wife, Judith undertook the translation of my third novel, Illusion de pouvoir in English. The novel recounts the difficult life of a character who becomes the mayor of Montréal. She is in review mode and hopes to have the novel published before the holidays. It’s quite a task: 111,230 words on more than 300 pages. She asked me to make a final review of the manuscript, a surprising experience. The French version of the novel was published in 2017 and I had never reread it. This review allowed me to reconnect with my characters and rediscover the plots, some of which I had even forgotten.

FFQ for QUÉBEC

As with Illusion de pouvoir, I continue to receive comments from readers on the subject of my last novel, FFQ for Québec. The majority of the comments are positive but the readers who know me well are surprised (some are even in disagreement) to see me writing a novel with Québec independence as a background. FFQ was first written in English for English readers. In writing this novel, I was aiming to make our Canadian friends understand the reasons why many Quebeckers still wanted separation. FFQ for Québec is also available in French.

THE ST. LAWRENCE RIVER

A few years ago, I began publishing blogs on the St. Lawrence River on my website. Increasingly frequent wastewater discharges had cut me to the quick. I have difficulty understanding that we could, in 2023, thereby pollute this river that we all admire and are so proud of. The research I made for the preparation of these blogs made me realize that our knowledge of the river is superficial and that we know very little of the life that unfolds beneath its surface. I resumed publishing my blogs over the past few weeks and they have now become summaries of chapters of a book in progress. They are available on my website. louismichelgratton.com
